Are you looking for a romantic getaway? Well, look no further. Burtree Country House and Retreat in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, provided us with the most perfect night away and I'm here to dish all of the details so you know exactly what to expect when you book!

I organised this trip as a treat for Joe who is about to turn 28. Originally, I had selected The Treehouse for a glamping experience like no other. As you can imagine, I was so disappointed when I received a call just two days before our visit telling me that this accommodation had been double booked and would not be available for our stay! However, the wonderful Maryam apologetically presented me with an offer I couldn't refuse - a night in The White Horse Suite, which offers everything The Treehouse has just with a little less nature and a little more luxury!

We arrived at the property at about quarter to four and were warmly welcomed and shown around the small estate before being taken up to our suite. The room was spacious, elegantly furnished and made to feel even more special as it had been decorated for Joe's birthday. Banners, balloons, a card, cupcake and two treat-size chocolate eggs were the little touches that went a long way towards making us feel more at home.

The bathroom was beautiful and opulent, Joe made use of the huge shower while I enjoyed soaking in the free standing tub. The hotel provided a range of lavish L'Occitane toiletries such as a body scrub, lotion, shower gel and bubble bath, as well as an abundance of fresh towels and two robes. We were blown away by the amenities, Dawn and her team really have thought of everything! From an electric blanket and a control panel for the heating, to tea and coffee making facilities (including fresh milk), wine glasses, to cutlery and plates allowing us the opportunity to dine alfresco.... Burtree had it all.

Aptly named due to it's stunning views of the Kilburn White Horse, the suite hosts a huge balcony completed by a chimenea fire pit, a BBQ and a four seater hot tub. We spent our evening out on the balcony, listened to the lambs bleating in the nearby fields, and watched as the sun went down over the rolling hills. At this point it was the perfect opportunity to turn the lights on the hot tub and to take a dip in the dark!

It took us a little while but we did manage to get the BBQ working and enjoyed a burger each for tea, washed down by a nice cold drink from our fridge, while we kept warm by the firepit. It was truly an idyllic evening and such a rare experience, making the £250 per night charge more than worth it.

In the morning we enjoyed breakfast in the The Folly - there was a continental offering of freshly baked olive bread, fruit salad, yoghurts, granola, cereals, milk, orange juice, tea and coffee. We had pre-ordered our cooked breakfast and found the meat to be delicious, you can tell they use fresh, local produce from the neighboring farm. Breakfast does cost more and you could always BBQ something for yourself but if you fancy a treat, I would recommend booking in and letting the team cook for you.

Dawn, the owner, is clearly a passionate and dedicated lady. She was very down to Earth and friendly when we spoke to her at the end of our stay. We didn't catch the names of the male staff who served us breakfast and were out and about in the morning but all were lovely and so attentive. However, the star of the show for us was Maryam, she helped organise our stay and was so pleasant both over the phone and in person.

We were made to very welcome despite it being busy due to the timing of Easter weekend and feel this was a unique experience for us as a couple, we have never stayed anywhere quite as magical! We will definitely be re-booking to try out The Treehouse and would seriously recommend having a look into this wonderful retreat if you would like a romantic night away soon.
